UdemyModes intimidate most guitarists because they''re traditionally taught in abstract, theoretical terms—scales divorced from sound and application. This course deliberately inverts that approach: you''ll train your ear to hear the mood and character each mode conveys.
The curriculum covers all seven modes, starting with single-octave scales and expanding to the full fretboard. You''ll compose lead licks and understand modal chord progressions—but always in context, tying each concept back to how it sounds and feels when played. The goal is genuine comprehension, not rote memorization.
By connecting the theory to the listening experience and to actual musical application, the course transforms modes from a mysterious hurdle into an intuitive toolkit. You''ll know not just what each mode is, but why you''d choose to use it and what mood it brings to your compositions.
Modes have often been "scary" subject matter for many of my students over the years. This is mostly attributed to it repeatedly being taught in a theoretical manner with little application and context. This can leave students and would be learners stumped, intimidated and often unmotivated.
My course is all about creating an understanding of "hearing" the mode and the "mood" that is created when you hear it. It may even help you with the kinds of moods you are trying to convey in your compositions.
In this course we'll cover the 7 modes as 1 octave scales, to covering the whole fretboard, as well as creating lead licks and understanding modal chord progressions.
