UdemyTaught by chess coach Sumit Balan, this course focuses on a specific, practical skill: recognizing and using basic opening traps. For beginners and hobby players who want to win more games — whether a casual match with a friend or an early tournament round — traps offer a fast way to gain an edge.
The course frames traps as more than just tricks: they showcase the tactical ideas and combinations that make chess engaging, while also sharpening your board vision and boosting motivation to keep learning the game.
Sumit Balan has played chess since age six, has studied and coached the game for around 30 years, and works as a coach and trainer for professional players, including Grandmasters, alongside a record of tournament wins at regional, national, and international level.
Students are encouraged to practice the traps on a real board rather than only reviewing them passively.
