Batting Location Charts with Vagrant and MySQL

A hands-on baseball analytics pipeline

This intermediate course works with large sets of PITCHf/x pitch-tracking data to build batting location charts, combining R for scraping and visualization with MySQL for data storage. It's a practical, end-to-end pipeline rather than an isolated tutorial.

What you'll set up and learn

• Installing a virtual Ubuntu machine to run the environment
• Installing MySQL and performing basic administrative tasks
• Connecting R and MySQL to move data between them
• Using ggplot in R to visualize batting locations

Who it's for

Learners with some existing knowledge of R and ggplot — ideally from the instructor's earlier baseball analytics courses — though the course notes it may be possible to follow along without that background. Paced comfortably, it's designed to be completed in about two weeks.
