Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act, India 2013

As enshrined in the Preamble to the Constitution of India, "equality of status and opportunity" must be secured for all the citizens. With improved access to education and employment, more and more women are entering the workforce every day. But sadly, almost 60% of them face sexual harassment at work every day. Sexual Harassment is a gross violation of women's rights to equality and dignity. Not only is it an infringement of women's fundamental rights, but it also results in the loss of workplace motivation and productivity. It is considered a strong form of violence against women. The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act 2013 was passed with the primary motive to ensure safe working environment for women. This act also helps to build enabling work environments which respect the women's right to equality of status and opportunity. However, reported incidents have been observed are considered as a breach of this act. At this instance, it is important to ensure that the emphasis is on prevention of the cause rather than punitive action. This calls for widespread awareness of the Act among employers, managers and the workers themselves.

In this Sexual Harassment Awareness training, you will be taught to handle sexual harassment issues and complaints. This hands-on training addresses the elements of handling and prevention of unacceptable behavior. The modules in this course include a detailed overview of the 'The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal)' or the PoSH Act 2013. The training also covers basic topics like 'What is sexual harassment?' and various actions that may be categorized as sexual harassment. All the provisions of the Indian Penal Code which stand against Sexual Harassment are covered too. The course discusses in detail the various duties of the employer to curb harassment and shows how the redress mechanism works to handle sexual harassment complaints.
