edXWomen's work shaped America, yet their economic and political contributions have often been rendered invisible. This course examines how women of different races and classes participated in—and were excluded from—economic, political, and social life across American history. You'll analyze primary sources, trace how key figures challenged women's roles, and grapple with how concepts like democracy, liberty, and equality have been applied differently to women and men. The course also examines historiography itself, showing how women's history as a discipline has evolved to center previously overlooked perspectives.
