edXPatient-Centered Outcomes Research puts patients at the table, not on the sidelines. This 11-lecture beginner course shows how PCOR researchers engage patients and communities, design studies that matter to real people, and translate findings into practice.
You'll explore community-based participatory research, shared decision-making in cancer care, patient-reported outcomes, and how health literacy and cognitive differences reshape what "informed participation" means. Dissemination and implementation wrap the research loop—because finished research is only half the story. This is PCOR as a philosophy, not just a method.
In this course, you will learn about the characteristics of CER/PCOR, compare and contrast CER/PCOR studies and randomized controlled trials, and you will hear how PCOR researchers have overcome a variety of barriers to ensure patient-centered care.
