edXGame design is the art of creating engaging experiences within a set of rules. This course takes you from initial vision to finished game, teaching you to define what success means for your game and why players will care to play it. You'll explore game psychology, learn to balance challenge against success, and navigate the tension between simplicity and complexity that makes games either accessible or overwhelming.
Working with frameworks and your target audience as your guide, you'll prototype (card games, board games, digital), evaluate viability, and produce the complete package: the game itself, packaging, and rule book. By course end, you'll understand the levers that create fair, engaging, and replayable games.
